The shops in Stornoway were super with a good range of things to choose from. We visited the butcher, the charity shops, the deli, the new Co-op supermarket, tweed shops, Tourist Information and Taigh Ceilidh where we received a very warm welcome.

the hotel is fine the staff are good prices a bit high but that is standard for the island. my only problem is a slight health issue and with the very steep stairs and the rooms all upstairs i found this a problem but the hotel is ok.

Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle).
Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle). The shopping is poor and it's very difficult to eat out on a Sunday or Monday. Most restaurants are closed! SO BOOK if you can !( We don't think they want to encourage tourists!) Do go to the Black House village and the standing stones. Really interesting. We were looking for wildlife but it was minimal. We were only there 2 full days but wished we were back on Uist!!

I really liked the museum and the castle's sunken gardens.
I really liked the museum and the castle's sunken gardens. Gardens were peaceful and lovely laid out. The museum was a good size with helpful staff. Some nice food shops for gifts/souvenirs and for Harris tweed and jewellery. Can easily visit historical sites and beautiful beaches with white sands and turquoise crystal clear sea. Just like the Caribbean if the weather is good. Only quieter - you can have the beach almost to yourself.
The receptionist was really friendly and let us leave our bags at the hotel and check in a bit early. The bedroom was nicer than we expected from the outside of the building. The shower was great and all the bathroom supplies - towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower caps - were nice. Everything was very clean. The room wasn't huge but had two windows, one looking out to the harbour. We didn't have a cooked breakfast but there was a good selection of fruit & cereals. Nice that they offer breakfast from 5.30 for early ferries etc.
The Caladh Inn was clean and nice but we had rooms with NO windows. When I booked the two rooms it said sky lights. We like sky lights and thought that was a nice added bonus. When we got there we found out there were no windows in the room - only the skylight. We weren't pleased. Otherwise the Caladh was nice. The staff were great. It was near the ferry and they had a continental breakfast very early in the morning so we could catch a 7:00 ferry.
Very clean, comfortable, very good breakfast, good location( 10 min from Stornoway center).
We were impressed how kind was the host. She gave us a lot of information about the island, she got up early in the morning( 5 a.m) to prepare us breakfast as we had our ferry by that time, she was always smiling and very attentive.
We felt very well treated and we strongly recommend this accommodation.
Fully equipped to highest standards.
Very spacious and comfortable.
Location is central to everything in Stornoway.
Hosts provided a very generous welcome pack including best homemaid marmalade I have ever tasted
Excellent WiFi and exceptional customer care from host Murdo.
Lovely modern decor, great cooking/living area, spotlessly clean and comfy beds. Can’t say enough good things about it. 10 minute walk from town center and views across the water-loved it and such great value. If we’re back in Stornoway we’ll definitely return to Salmon House.
Helen was a lovely host. Great location, proximate to Stornoway and Harris destinations. Wonderful breakfasts, and Helen will do a fabulous dinner for you if you order ahead. Really nice after a long day of outdoor activities. Highly recommend
We were warmly welcomed by the owner with a sparkling clean and tidy room. The continental breakfast items were ample and perfect for us. We really enjoyed our stay at this location as it is a 15 minute walk to the centre of Stornoway. Just great!
Great property in a good location for exploring the islands. We'll equipped with all we needed for our stay and with welcoming hosts and a good informative welcome guide. Only 10 mins drive from Stornoway Ferry. Had a lovely week. Thanks
! Reception staff very helpful.

I have been travelling to Stornoway on a regular basis over the last 10 years and this was the most comfortable stay I have had including the hotels The host was extremely helpful.
Perfectly located to explore Stornoway on foot and the rest of the island with the car. Our host was extremely nice and helped us reunite with a kids toy we had left behind!
